Our Name Is Our Virtue

June 1st, 2010

To possess a character or quality which is considered good in and of itself.  When your name is brought up when you are not around, do you think it rolls with the definition of virtue?  I can remember growing up and thinking constantly that I did not care what anyone else thought and that I was better than them anyways.  This attitude has its perks, but can easily be detrimental in the real world as an adult.  I feel that there was a time when I convinced myself that I really was good regardless of what may have been said about me in random conversations.  This was a good quality to have because in the end it shaped me and who I am today.  I personally could think of the many different paths I could have taken but again, it shaped me and made me who I am.  We all want control and many may disagree with this statement, but in the end, we need to sleep good at night and feel  within ourselves that we are good.

Perception is not always reality.  Here in this statement lies the truth.  What we often perceive to be true may or may not be true.  But to who?  What differentiates us from others?  What is your guage?  We were all put on this planet to do what?  Are we to alienate ourselves from all others and survive or be selfish?  I once heard or read somewhere that everyone should take the time to ponder what it would be like if they could attend their own funeral and listen in on all that was said in their behalf.  What would they say about you?  That is a powerful statement.  I like to believe that after we leave this world our journey continues and that our time here will be judged.  We are  all judged at work which defines us as an employee and perhaps advancement opportunitiees with our workplace.  Every second counts, so don’t go another without thinking about your name and what comes after it.  Do you enjoy compliments?  If you do, then perhaps others do as well.  Here is your homework.  Over the next 24 hours, count how many compliments you distributed and tally them.  This will create a stronger awareness in of yourself to how much good your name is spreading.  To spread goodness or smiles goes a long way.  I like to think that each night when I sleep, I am harvesting seeds of goodness that need to be spread throughout my day.  I could never use these seeds all for myself, and to keep them to myself would be like watching good food go bad.  Don’t hoard all that you have to give, go out and spread it so that others will reap your virtue.

See, Hear, And Feel The Now

May 4th, 2010

First off, please forgive my lapse in postings over the past couple months.  I have unfortunately not been away on a long vacation, but giving my attention to other business.  Just sitting down to write is almost therapy for myself and I am quickly reminded of how nice it is to share thoughts and feelings with the world.  I read recently an excerpt from a book called the Power Of Now, and it got me thinking.  The author spoke about how we all have two purposes in life.  First, an inner purpose and second, an outer purpose.  The inner purpose is essentially the here and the now.  This very second, and the next, and the next.  You get the idea.  The outer purpose is the end effect, goal, or destination which clouds many of our thought processes.  This outer purpose is where, in my opinion,  many of our problems arise.

I want to first talk about the outer purpose.  We have often been told how important it is in life to set goals and to establish plans of actions to attain them.  This is very important and vital, in fact without it, almost impossible.  There are many who set goals and plans of action to attain them, but become fixed upon the end result and seem to think that someone else is driving them there.  I believe that our psyche is what misleads us, often times in looking ahead rather than right before our eyes.  If we are so locked-in to where we are going yet blind to each step we take in getting there, its not surprising we may miss a couple signs which require detours to get us where we intend to go.

See, Hear, and Feel the Now.  The now is right before your eyes, ears and fingers.  We can never appreciate where we want to be, if we can not appreciate the journey while it is happening.  We were put on this planet for a purpose and many will die while still searching for it.  Many say life is short, but I like to think it’s just right as God intended it.  I plan to slow down and smell the roses a bit more.  Don’t be in such a hurry, because if you are you may miss your exit.

P stands for ………

March 8th, 2010

I began this little series of articles with the term, “Don’t be afraid to slip-up.”  Within the word I broke it down to serving others, listen often, initiate action, and finally for the “P”.  While it is extremely important to serve, listen, and initiate, it is also vital to persist.  One could also reciprocate the word persist with other synonyms like follow-up, never quit, or relentless.  It does not matter which term you want to use, but the meaning behind it does.  I can remember reading an article in a business journal magazine recently that spoke about the number one failure in generating new and consistent business.  It was in the failure to persist or follow-up with leads on an ongoing basis.  Many unsuccessful representatives for various businesses seem to think that once a contact has been generated and the initial relationship has been established, then business will soon begin to roll on in.

Those of us with children understand the importance of persistence far more than those without.  When our young children want something they are determined and they will get it, many times because we appreciate their persistence, right?  Perhaps not, but this example does drive the importance of persistence home a bit.  I have often wondered how or why my youngest son can rant and manipulate me or his mother into just about anything as if he has a wisdom beyond our own capacities.  Kids persist because they only see what they want and will do whatever it takes to get it.  They do not think of all the steps that are required and diligent efforts needed to be done.  They are not worried about what others might say.  They are not talking to themselves quietly about all the reasons they should stop persisting or finding excuses to abort from the task at hand.  We can learn a lot from our children and persistence is key.

Relationships and business do not happen overnight.  They are planted and nourished with consistency, attention, repetition, and emotion.  Do you notice that last sentence?  CARE!  (Consistency, Attention, Repetition, and Emotion)  I think I just may save that for another article.  If you want something bad enough you need to be persistent.  The bottom line is that if you are not persistent with your efforts then you really do not care about the outcome.  Anyone who cared would stop at nothing.  There is a price for success in this world, though it is not in monetary value, but in never giving up.  That cost is free.

The next time you feel that you may have had a “SLIP-UP” moment, remember what it really means and be sure you are in connection with its true meaning.  If you do this you will without a doubt begin to see and notice changes in your life for the better.  It is impossible for you not to.  Now go out there and make it happen.

Now For The “I” In Slip-Up….

February 25th, 2010

By now I am quite certain that many of you have thought of some ideas for what the “I” stands for.  Lets us review in brief.  First we need to look for opportunities in which we can Serve others regardless of the the situation.  Second we learned that it is imperative for ones growth and success to Listen more than we speak.  Now for the “I”.  One must, set in motion, commence, invest in order to grow.  These statements are synonyms for Initiate.  So  often in my own personal experiences, I found myself sitting back and waiting for the doors of opportunity to knock with hopes for my personal growth and success, but I only found myself running in place and never saw the changes I desired to come into my life.  I learned quickly that if I wanted something I needed to initiate the knocks at my door.  This can only be accomplished if one takes responsibility and begins knocking on doors rather than waiting for others to knock.  When I began to initiate encounters without knowing who would answer my knocks, I began to see personal growth and success overflowing into my life.  There is an old saying that opportunity only knocks when you begin knocking on opportunities door.  If you want something in this world you must go and find it.  For every action there is a reaction.  Too many people sit back and wait only to find themselves growing older, more tired, frustrated, and broke.  I learned to take action in everything I do knowing that this world of abundance will react exactly as you intended.  I do not possess any more energy or spirit than any other person or thing.  We all come from the same seed and have dormant forces within each of us just waiting to come to life.  It is these dormant forces that will remain asleep if you continue to sit back and wait for the changes you wish for in life to take place.  The catch here is to trust your inherent abilities and god given spirit to attract into your life exactly what you intend without fear, hesitation, or doubt.  It really is that simple.  This spirit that lives in you and me has no boundaries, limits, or end.  It is infinite and is only held back by your self doubts and hesitation.  This energy source doesn’t know anything about confinement unless you think it.  The best way to continue life as you know it is to do the same thing you have done up to now in your life.  Again, it’s that simple.  I want each of you to begin speaking to yourself as if you have a power within you that no one else has and that you will use it to gain access to whatever it is that you intend for yourself in this world.  Remember that your only obstacle is your doubts and fears.  Now go out and make it happen!

Want More For Who?

February 18th, 2010

I just had another revelation and wanted to share it with you.  So often we are told that it is okay to have wants and desires.  In fact we have been told that we should even picture ourselves in the new car we desire even before we own it and that if we do, we will have put the energy out there and our new car will appear into our lives.  It is the old saying that our thoughts become things.  I like this concept and have adapted my life around this idea and have seen success with it.  Though I do feel this is a great way for many to get started in route to a new and better life, I also think that we should have a better understanding as to why.  Why is it that if we picture, visualize, or imagine all that we want to transpire into our lives, we begin to see them come to fruition more times than not.  I know that for me, I felt that it seemed a better fit than the alternative, which was plead, beg, or just hope for.

What I have come to realize is something I had been conscious of my entire life, though never at the subconscious level.  As you know, our conscious minds take up the majority of our daily activities with the menial tasks in which we convince ourselves as vital to our life and survival. Imagine if we could actually remember the day of our birth, or better yet our first couple years of our life.  Do you think we fared okay without the use of our conscious minds?  I am certain that I was fine and also certain that each day that I can consciously remember was a day that took away from my alter ego that I like to refer as “Genius”.  The majority of us forget the genius in all of us because society has helped us to believe that we need to forget about the energy force within us.  This energy force which not only created you, me, but all matter that exists in our entire solar system.  You may call this energy force anything you would like, but I refer to it as God.  This does not have to even bring religion into this discussion, it is a fact that we all come from the same energy source.  This is a proven and scientific fact.  This energy force I like to call God, is not a person, but just a spirit or energy that sits at the genesis of all physical matter.

Matter is not matter.  This is something that was difficult for me at first to comprehend, but when I saw a presentation in plain english for my eyes and “conscious” mind, a light went off.  It is very difficult to think that when you break down any form of matter, whether it is a stone, tree, or human, you get atoms, then more atoms then nothing.  This nothing is a spirit which has made you, me and everything  that one desires to bring into his or her life.  Though you may seem a bit confused right now, it is probably coming together for you as you read this because you can’t help to trust this energy force, heck it made you.

It is extremely important for you to understand that even though we are all linked to this energy force, very few of us are connected.  I am sure you would agree that a husband and a wife for example can be linked to one another through marriage but not connected at all.  We can not assume that, just because we pray to God or give some conscious attention to this energy force from time to time,we are connected.  We need to give attention to it and put it first in line.  If your marriage is in the rut, then it is obvious that you put your spouse further back in line than what you consciously believe is more important.  If your kids are not acting or behaving in ways you consciously deem appropriate then it is obvious that you are not giving enough attention to them.  You can not be connected to anything that you desire if you do not consciously give attention to it on a consistent basis.  Read that last sentence over again and again until it sinks deep within your subconscious.  Consistent attention is the answer to the earlier question I posed, though I have twist to this I want to share.  We all have wants and for every want that we desire there is someone else, perhaps in our circle, that will benefit even greater from that which we so aspire to bring into our lives.  So what am I saying?  If you want a new home that has a pool, three car garage, four bedrooms with a theatre room inside then your consistent attention should be directed to those who will benefit from your immediate desire.  Your family would benefit, the realtor who sold you the house would benefit, the bank which loaned you the money would benefit, and perhaps the the local pool company would benefit.  I think you get the picture now.  It is quite alright to have wants and desires, but begin to see others that will benefit from your wishes prior to yours.  I believe that sounds like a past article of mine, S-Stands for serving others.

Make it the Best Day Ever!
